Adam, my employer is paying for my COBRA insurance but my Medicare begins next month. Will I be able to maintain this COBRA coverage with my Medicare?
While each group can be different in general, a person must drop their COBRA coverage once Medicare begins. Not to mention the fact that COBRA insurance is going to be significantly more expensive than any Medicare secondary coverage. Maintaining your COBRA coverage could also set up a claims fiasco between COBRA, Medicare, and any secondary insurance you choose. So, while you might be able to maintain the COBRA coverage it will more than likely be in your best interest to drop it and go just Medicare and secondary coverage.
